The role of SEN Learning Support Assistant:

Support children aged 5–16 with EHCP needs including trauma, SEMH challenges, ADHD, ADD and OCD in a specialist school setting
Build relationships using a restorative approach, prioritising comfort and trust over academic content
Demonstrate the value of education to students in an Alternative Learning Provision
Provide a mixture of 1:1 and small group support in class, dependent on the lesson and individual contexts
Support focus on Key and Personal Skills, Sports, Cooking, Technology, Music, Drama, Photography and Art

The ideal SEN Learning Support Assistant:

Psychology, Criminology, Sociology or Education Studies graduate
Genuine interest in gaining practical experience in SEN, mental health or youth justice settings
Sincere, empathetic and resilient — able to engage with young people from complex backgrounds
Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)

Additional context

GSL SEN Education are recruiting graduates for an SEN LSA role in Redditch within a large specialist provision of 60 children. The school has Clinical Psychologists on site and offers an excellent training system. This role is ideal for graduates pursuing careers in Clinical Psychology, Advocacy, Youth and Social Justice, or Teaching who want daily hands-on experience in a specialist SEN environment.
